The Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, could not nail down a new  Head Coach for very long it seems.

It was only in late May that the organization announced the signing of former Merrimack coach Mark Dennehy as the new bench boss. Flash forward just two months and Dennehy is bidding a farewell to the Wheel and taking over as Head Coach for the Birmingham Devils, the AHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils organization.

"The ECHL is a developmental league for both players and coaches, and while we are disappointed in Coach Dennehy's departure, we wish him only great success in Birmingham," said Wheeling Nailers Governer Don Rigby.

The Nailers organization issued an official statement regarding Dennehy's departure and what the team plans to do going forward.

For now, it is back to the drawing board and piles of application as training camp and the start of the 2018-19 ECHL season draws closer.
