It was too good to be true. The Penguins were enjoying a stretch where their stars were healthy and performing at otherworldly levels. Anxious fans waited for the other shoe to drop. It seems to have finally happened.
The Penguins announced earlier today that Letang will be placed on Injured Reserved, a move anticipated by many after Mike Sullivan said on Thursday that Letang would miss "a couple of weeks" with a lower body injury.
Adding insult to injury, Trevor Daley seemed to be headed to a similar path after Friday's game in which he missed significant game time after an injury.
Chad Ruhwedel has been called up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in one of what will likely be a series of moves in the coming few weeks. Ruhwedel has 3 goals and 10 assists in 26 games with the Baby Pens during the 2016-17 season.
The loss of Letang, and Daley, showed in Friday's 1-0 overtime loss to the Kings in which the Penguins looked uncharacteristically slow and lethargic.
