Pens Beat Chicago, Roster Cuts

On Wednesday, September 28th, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in a 2-0 decision, for their first win of the preseason. This makes the the Pens 1-1-0 on the preseason.

Chris Kunitz scored the only two goals in the 3rd period, while Trevor Daley, David Warsofsky, Josh Archibald and Eric Fehr added an assist each. Tristan Jarry made 30 saves for the shutout, including this nasty glove save:




The day after, the Pens made some cuts to the training camp roster. These included forwards Tom Kostopolous, Milos Bubela, Gage Quinney, Jarrett Burton, Christian Hilbrich, and Reid Gardiner as well as defensemen Barry Goers, Michael Webster, and Ryan Segalla. They will all be assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins training camp.

Milos Bubela, Gage Quinney, and Reid Gardiner are all on amateur try-out contracts, according to Seth Lakso.

Players that weren't in the lineup during the Stanley Cup Playoffs from last season include: forwards Jake Guentzel, Dominik Simon, Teddy Blueger, Josh Archibald, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Kevin Porter, Thomas Di Pauli, Sahir Gill, Ryan Haggerty, Adam Krause, Carter Rowney, Tom Sestito, Garrett Wilson and Scott Wilson; defensemen Lukas Bengtsson, Ethan Prow, Tim Erixon, Cameron Gaunce, Reid McNeill, Steve Oleksy, Stuart Percy, David Warsofsky, Chad Ruhwedel; and goaltenders Doug Carr, Leland Irving, Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith.

The Penguins host the Blackhawks tonight for their first home game of the preseason.
