Mike Milbury bashes Brooks Orpik for Hit on Toews

It  is safe to say that Brooks Orpik's hit on Chicago Blackhawks' center, Jonathan Toews, will be talked about until your ears bleed for the next week or so. Of course, the NHL won't be able to celebrate anything positive, instead the NHL will have the likes of old-time hockey talking heads discussing whether or not Orpik's hit on Towes was illegal or not. Talking heads like Mike Milbury of NBC.

As you will see in the video below, Milbury goes off on how Orpik is a predator, who shouldn't be allowed to hit people because he does not fight. Milbury's logic, which isn't really logic at all, basically states that Orpik is a bitch because he does not fight after landing big hits. Milbury also went on to say that if he were coaching the Blackhawks that he would have ordered them to attack Orpik.

Not surprising at all. Milbury, for those of you who aren't aware, is the same guy that attacked a kid in the stands with a shoe. This is the last guy the NHL needs to be on analyzing games on post-game shows. One of the few problems with the league that continues to hold itself back from hiring goons like Milbury.

Here's the video of the hit. You be the judge.

Orpik tucked his elbow in and didn't aim at Toews head, which is exactly what the NHL wants. The hit is going to be talked about because Orpik has been the talk of big hits before, and mostly because Toews is one of the biggest names in the NHL. If this hit would have been put on Bradon Bollig, instead of Toews, I highly doubt that any of us is even talking about it. Hell, Matt Niskanen dished out a hit that was just as big a few moments later during the game. Only reason people are not complaining about that hit is because it wasn't Orpik, and it a star-player wasn't injured. After the game, Orpik said,""That hit happens about 10 times per game."

Here's what people around the business are saying about the hit.

You have to feel bad for Chicago, who is now without two star players, Toews, and Patrick Kane, but that should not mean that Orpik needs to be attacked by the media. Orpik made a big/clean hit. I do not remember some of these talking heads criticizing Scott Stevens this much. Perhaps, Toews and others can learn to keep their heads up. Then maybe we can truly cutdown on shots to player's heads.

As for Orpik not fighting, why should he have to fight for hitting someone in a hockey game? Why should anyone fight after a big hit? Is that what this sport has come to? If that is the case, you might as well take hitting out of the game altogether.

  1. I'm a Hawks fan and Toews is my favorite player. It is very unfortunate for us that The Captain is going to miss some games. It was a hard hit, but seems like a clean check. I don't like Orpik. I think he definitely picks his targets, but I don't feel he should face any sanctions for the hit.

    1. Now I would take you're comments to the bank but you show me with your thoughtful and intelligent use of the English language that know should take what you say seriously. You should consider using your brain for a while. Why don't you tell us who you follow and examine they're play? Orpik is Not a dirty player, he is a profession who looks to me like he's doing his job!

  4. Towes head was down looking for the puck, at his level he should be heads up then he would have seen it coming. Heads up guys or you will get hit. His team mates could have alerted him to the hit.

  5. Orpik clearly targeted Toews, hit him in the head. If that was Crosby everyone in Pittsburgh would be bitching

  7. MIKE MILBURY JUST HATES THE PENS. LAST YEAR HE HAD A PROBLEM WITH CROSBY, NOW ORPIK. WHO WILL BE NEXT? I WOULD BET IT WILL BE ANOTHER PENGUIN. THE HIT WAS CLEAN. MILBURY WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A PENGUIN ON THE RECIEVING END. I THOUGHT THAT BROADCASTING WAS TO BE UNBIASED.

  8. The guy is a thug that can't back up his actions and face the consequences, that's why he backs away from fights. What a tough guy ??? LOL--- Let's hope your little cheater/cry baby, Sid the Puss gets leveled in the next few games

  10. How was the hit dirty? Also, why should you fight if you hit a player in the game of hockey?

  11. The fact you defend a guy who refuses to fight after hitting an unsuspecting player and downright disrespecting an aspect of hockey is just pathetic. The fact of the matter wasn't the hit but the fact he crawls back to his mongoloid cave after without defending his actions. You being ignorant of that fact is what makes it very clear what you know about the sport. Standard pens fan.

    1. Youre a squirrel...and YOU seem to be missing the point, just like that bafoon Millbury! Orpik hits because that what he does...He doesn't throw the puck at the net like a forward because hes a DEFENDER! Doing whatever he can to defend his net against goals...and opponents who score them. If you don't hit someone like Toews/Kane or Crosby/Malkin, THEY will make you look silly. Anybody defending that caliber of player better make it known that the area they are skating into isn't a shopping mall. That's why they wear the gear dude..
Orpik just lets you know to stay the FCK out of the area hes guarding...And personally, Im sorry Toews is hurt but its good to see some Ol' School Orpik hitting again!

  14. Orpik...try your sissy antics on Big John Scott and see where you end up...either on a stretcher or on your back, trying to count stadium lights

  15. he lined up toews without regard to the puck, except that toews had it which would make the hit legal. he knew the player was vulnerable.
he left his feet driving UP during impact to get part of the head.
he did tuck his elbow, did hit a player close enough to the puck, and didn't leave his feet until he hit....so it is a legal hockey hit.
but he didn't care about getting the puck back (his job), he drove UP during the hit (he intends to injure on his hits, historically) and he lined up toews in a vulnerable position (again with the intent to injure)
keith had a chance to light up crosby the same way in a vunerable position later in the game but let up and played the puck instead.
the hit was legal, barely meeting the criteria, but it was gutless and predatory.
    defend that pens fans.
