Malkin, Ovechkin, Others Sing Russian Olympic Theme

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi are right around the corner and our friends at Puck Daddy have brought us the newest gem in Evgeni Malkin coverage.  This time he has friends.

The song, "Shaybu, Shaybu" by Russian pop star Irina Allegrova, has become the official anthem of Russian Olympic hockey.  The video is a mash up of old and new Russian Olympic hockey footage and stars like Malkin, Alexander Ovechkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Pavel Bure, and Vladislav Tretiak singing the chorus.

Lyrics per Puck Daddy and Dmitry Chesnokov:

Sometimes there are miracles in this world.
And as if it is a joke,
That the best game for our men
By accident was born in Canada.
To the battle on ice
Everyone had that passion. That ancient passion.
Shaybu! Shaybu!
The victory is ours.
Shaybu! Shaybu!
Guys, we are with you.
And if it’s really needed, we will score another
Shaybu! Shaybu!
Russia is behind you.
Shaybu! Shaybu!
Guys, you are the strength!
We are the Russian team,
We are the Red Machine!
We are the Red Machine!

This is just the start of what will be a fun Olympic hockey season and fear not, Pens Initiative and the Radio:PI Podcast Network will have daily updates from all of the hockey action from Sochi.  Plus we're going to make Malkin our friends.
