To the surprise of very few the Penguins officially announced the signing of Chuck Kobasew this morning. The 31 year old Kobasew had been on a Professional Try Out to earn the chance at a contract with the Penguins after parting ways with the Colorado Avalanche in the off season. Kobasew's contract will pay him $500,000 over the next season, a departure from the $1.25 million he made each year of his last two years with the Avalanche. Before playing for the Avalanche Kobasew spent time as a member of the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins, and Calgary Flames who drafted him 14th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
