Penguins/Red Wings Recap, Highlights by @pghgirl15222

The Pittsburgh Penguins showed why they are Eastern Conference favorites last night en route to defeating the Detroit Red Wings 5-1. To be fair to the Red Wings many of their starters did not dress but after what Bylsma considered a mediocre performance against the Blackhawks the other night, it might sooth irritated Pittsburgh fans (See: Pittsburgh Steelers record) to see their team meeting expectations. Detroit player Johan Franzen summed it up best, stating “It kind of looks like boys against men out there.''

Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek had a subpar night allowing 5 goals on 37 shots against a Penguins line up that was flying on the ice. Jussi Jokinen and Pascal Dupuis little time getting the party started, Jokinen’s goal coming at 15:06 (power play goal) and Duper’s at 17:35. Sidney Crosby looked like the MVP we all know and love while adding an assist on Duper’s goal.

Craig Adams made it 3-0 in the second on a deflected shot by an angry Russian coming out of the penalty box (I am score) but Detroit quickly responded with a goal by Drew Miller. Chris Kunitz also added a goal to make it 4-1. Kunitz showed his worth again on the power play at 9:28 in the third to make it 5-1.

The biggest drama came in the third when Penguins player Robert Bortuzzo got in a scuffle with Justin Abdelkader who apparently needed stitches to his hand after the game. Apart from that penalties were at a minimum and the majority of the time the Red Wings younger guys looked largely overwhelmed.

Only negatives: Tanner Glass and Deryk Engelland. Here's highlights of their play:

I do not think this explains what watching the Penguins last night was like. The group looked rested and excited. I truly believe that whatever happened during the Bruins series last season made them hungrier. Bylsma also seemed content with this game relaying: "This was a complete game in a lot of our areas" and I would have to agree. The Penguins are healthy, the Penguins have the chemistry, and the Penguins are ready for the regular season. #LetsGoPens

The Penguins open up their regular season next Thursday at home at 7:00 PM against the Devils.
