Hockey Night in Barrie by @ryannoble66

On Thursday, August 15th I attended Hockey Night in Barrie which was held at the Barrie Molson Centre, home of the Barrie Colts (Yes, we are talking about the Canadas. Barrie, Ontario Canada). This is a charity hockey game held in Barrie every year to support the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH a local hospital. On hand were, several NHL stars from the past and present, celebrities from television and music and much more!

The event was a huge success raising $250,000 dollars which is the most in the 6 year history of the event! A respectable jump from the first event held in 2008 which raised $100,000.

This picture above is of the opening puck drop. In the photo from left to right is Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos, Barrie MP Patrick Brown, top fundraiser Melissa Browning from Barrie Ball Hockey, Walter Gretzky, RVH Foundation board chairwoman Arlette Utton and Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry.

Before the opening ceremony, Alan Thicke (from Growing Pains and for that kid who sings that Blurred Lines song) said they were going to film some action for a TV show. No information was released on the show or when it will air.

After filming everything was set up for O' Canada which was sung by Country Music singer Jason McCoy who also sang one of his new songs at intermission as well as Stompin Toms "The Good Ol Hockey Game" (I know, very Canadian, right?) And from then on was just a fun hockey game.

Not only was the event filled with NHL quality players, but there was some comedy throughout the game. From former Pittsburgh Penguin Gary Roberts roughing up everybody to retired Toronto Maple Leaf Darcy Tucker rolling around begging for a call.

Tucker BEGGING for a call!

As always, there were former Barrie Colt players who are now in the NHL who took part in the were Bryan Little of the Winnipeg Jets as well as his team mate Mark Scheifele. Also Tanner Pearson and Kyle Clifford of the LA Kings.

There were not just players and former players of the Barrie Colts. Here is the entire list of players/former players who took part in the game.

Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning)
Corey Perry (Anaheim Ducks)
