The Penguins announce that they have re-signed forward Dustin Jeffrey to a one year deal worth $625,000.
Jeffrey, 25, appeared in 24 games for the Penguins in the shortened 2012-13 season. He scored three goals and assisted on three others seeing mostly third and fourth line duty. Jeffrey is a constant example used of the youth movement in Pittsburgh not being given a chance to flourish in a more than supporting role.
Jeffrey's signing puts the Penguins at 12 forwards signed for next year, enough to fill out a full roster, but around $500,000 over the Salary Cap. The Penguins have until the start of the season to become cap compliant. In the off season a team may go 10% over the Salary Cap.
The Penguins have one player remaining unsigned, Restricted Free Agent defenseman Robert Bortuzzo. He has elected to go to arbitration and his hearing is slated for August 1st. Should the Penguins and Bortuzzo reach a deal before then the hearing will be scrapped.
